Vegan
Chili Cook-Off and Fall Festival

Sept. 13, 2010
The Fall Festival and Vegan Chili Cook Off originally scheduled
for this coming Sunday, Sept. 19th has been cancelled. We are very
sorry for the late notice and inconvenience.
Many of you know that the co-founders of the sanctuary, Dorothy
Davies and Monte Jackson, still live at the sanctuary. Their house
is the one you see in upper right hand corner of the picture above,
just beyond the barns. A few months ago, Dorothy's elderly mother,
Helen, suffered a brain hemorrhage and was no longer able to care
for herself. She moved in with Monte and Dorothy, and they began
taking care of her in addition to their sanctuary duties. Helen
is very proud of the work her daughter does, and seemed to very
much enjoy seeing it firsthand on a daily basis.
Sadly, late last week she took a turn for the worse and after a
brief hospitalization, she has come home to live out her last days
with help from Hospice. The family has been advised that her remaining
time will be very brief. While no one can say for sure when she
will pass, everyone here is certain that it is not an appropriate
time to host a large public event. Rest assured, though, that we
have enough staff and volunteers to meet the needs of the animals
during this difficult time.
Those who entered the chili cook off will be notified separately
and entry fees will be refunded. We know many of you have waited
all summer to visit the sanctuary, and we will schedule a pot luck
and tour day in October. We will announce that date as soon as possible.
We would very much appreciate help in notifying those who may not
have access to our communications of the cancellation.
From everyone here at SASHA Farm, thank you so much for your understanding.
