HOW YOU CAN HELP: Ways To Help | Volunteering | Animal Sponsorship | Purchase Merchandise | Wish List | Volunteer Application

Volunteering at SASHA Farm is such a rewarding experience. There are several ways you can choose to get involved with SASHA Farm as a volunteer, depending on how much spare time you have to commit.

Volunteer Work Days

Most of our volunteers choose to donate their time to SASHA Farm by attending our monthly Volunteer Work Days. These events are a great way to help the animals, meet like-minded people, and enjoy a day out in the fresh country air. Tasks for the day can range from pasture cleaning to hoof trimming, and any training you'll need will be provided "on-the-job." Many of these work days are followed by potlucks, too! You'll need to let us know you're coming, but no volunteer application is necessary.

Weekly Volunteering

Do you have a few hours consistently available on a weekly basis? We are looking for responsible, dedicated people who can spare some time to help with daily sanctuary operations. These volunteers will all begin their training with us doing mostly barn cleaning, but this type of quiet time with the animals is really the best way for you to get to know them, and more importantly from their perspective, for them to get to know you. Consistency is very important to the animals' wellbeing, and those volunteers who prove themselves to be consistent will also be trained to feed the animals and do more extensive animal care.

If you're interested in becoming a weekly volunteer, please fill out our volunteer application. If your availability matches our needs, we will contact you within a few days.

Cat Housekeeping

Maybe caring for big animals like cows or horses is a little daunting to you, but you don’t mind scooping litter boxes once a week. It takes about two hours a day to do the cat chores, but we promise it'll give you a week's worth of joy! Some of the cats were feral and need gentle socializing, but others won’t stay off your lap! Choose one day a week and you’ll truly make a difference in their lives. This is a perfect job for someone who can volunteer in the evening after work.

If you're interested in becoming a cat barn volunteer, please fill out our volunteer application.

We also need help in the following areas:

Building maintenance and improvement

Gardening

Administrative assistance

Veterinary Assistance

If you have any of these skills that you'd like to volunteer, please contact our Shelter Manager.

Group Volunteering
We get many requests from groups of people interested in coming to the sanctuary to give their time to work on special projects. We are not always able us to accomodate large groups, but we do occassionally have projects that require many helping hands. If your group is interested in being contacted when we schedule a special project at the sanctuary, contact our Shelter Manager and include any special skills your group members might have. If your group is interested in coming to visit the santuary for a tour and meet-and-greet with our residents and maybe even helping with some of the routine farm work, we'd be happy to see you during one of our Volunteer Work Days, or you can contact us to schedule a tour at another time.

General Volunteer Information

  • Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis for cat barn volunteers accompanied by an adult, but children under 16 are not allowed to work with the large animals.

  • Volunteering at SASHA Farm involves working on natural terrain, often in an unpredictable environment. Volunteers often use equipment and tools that could be dangerous if utilized in an inappropriate manner. Therefore, volunteers who choose to give their time and skills as a donation must relinquish SASHA Farm and the owners of the property from any and all liability should accident or injury result from volunteer activities.

  • Volunteers must sign a waiver of liability. If a volunteer is under the age of 18, the waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Please be realistic about your ability to commit your time. Before submitting an application, check to see how far you'll have to travel to get to the sanctuary. The animals depend on the consistency of our volunteers.
  • Let us know if you have other skills or talents that may benefit the Sanctuary.

  • Contact us at volunteer@sashafarm.org for more information.
