Meet Nellie

Nellie came to us as a tiny, two-month-old baby. Born on a small family goat farm, she was originally meant to be raised for dairy or meat. However, from the start, she struggled to nurse from her mother, missing out on the essential nourishment baby goats need to thrive.

To ensure she survived, a kind neighbor stepped in to bottle-feed her multiple times a day. Fortunately, this compassionate woman was vegan and couldn’t bear the thought of Nellie being destined for someone’s dinner plate. Desperate to find her a safe and loving home, she reached out to us for help.

When Nellie was old enough, she made the journey to her new home. Since she still required bottle feedings, we set up a cozy nursery area where she could grow strong before meeting the other animals. Around the same time, a young rescued sheep named Lazarus was also in need of a companion. The two met and instantly became inseparable—playing from sunrise to sunset, sharing snacks, and growing up side by side.

As they got bigger, Nellie and Laz finally joined the rest of the herd in the main pasture. Though Nellie took some time to adjust to her new family, she eventually found her place. Now, she snuggles up with her best friend, Sam, and rules the pasture with confidence—bossing around both her animal companions and her human caretakers. Today, Nellie is happy, healthy, and living her best life, just as she was always meant to.
