These beautifully woolly animals roam the main pasture with the goats and other animal residents at the front of the sanctuary. Sheep are often on high alert and pretty skittish. However, when given love and attention, they become just as cuddly and loyal as other species. The various breeds we have at the sanctuary usually stick together in their respective herd, but never miss out on cuddles and treats!
Chewy, officially known as Chewbacca, is a stunning long-tailed sheep who found his way to SASHA Farm in the 2010s. His journey wasn’t an easy one—he was part of a heartbreaking hoarding case that left many animals neglected and without a safe place to call home.
This fluffy little sheep had a tough start to life on a farm in Indiana. Shortly after Geri was born, a tragic accident occurred—her mother accidentally stepped on her back left leg, causing a severe injury that cut off the main blood supply to her limb. As a result, Geri eventually lost her leg.
Maynard grew up inside a dark garage, tied to a pole, with no sunlight or grass to graze, in a city where it is illegal to keep livestock. It was just a matter of time before he was to be sent to slaughter. He called so loudly and often that a neighbor finally called the police. Luckily, SASHA Farm to the rescue and he is living out his life safe and happy, running in the pasture, with friends who love him. He’s pictured taking a break after a beautiful spring day at SASHA Farm!
Ollie came to us from a meat farm in the summer of 2022. She had suffered for months with a very painful and infected leg injury. The owners were going to send her to slaughter, as they didn’t want to waste their time and money to treat her. Luckily, a couple of neighbors heard about her struggle and wanted to rescue her. They contacted us immediately, picked her up from the farm, and drove her a few hours to the sanctuary. We knew she was in need of immediate medical attention, so we took her directly to MSU for treatment. The vet staff recommended leg amputation to provide her with quality of life. After the surgery, she recovered quickly and came back to her forever home. She is happy, healthy, and enjoying her safety and freedom. She has attached herself to our baby goat, Maria, and her best friend Billy Bob, another sheep sharing her condo.
